Budgets may not be available for your company yet.
Accounting > Budgets lets you set a spending cap for a team or a kind of spend, and track what’s been spent against it. You’ll find it in the sidebar once your company has finished onboarding. Each budget has owners, who get its notifications.

Your budgets

Budgets lists the budgets you have access to, in two tabs. Active lists budgets that are running now, and Past holds budgets whose end date has passed. Each row shows the budget’s Owners, Total budget, Utilization, Status, Type and Assigned cards. The status tells you how spend is tracking: On track, At risk or Over budget.

Create a budget

Select Create budget (or press C) and fill in: Spend is tagged to a budget as it comes in. That covers spend on the cards you assign, and card spend in the Every categories you pick. If QuickBooks is connected, you can also pick QuickBooks accounts. A card can belong to only one budget. If you add a card that’s already on another budget, Every asks before moving it. Transactions that are already tagged keep their budget. You can also choose a budget yourself when you look at a transaction, a card or an expense.
You can’t change a budget’s type or schedule after you create it.

Track a budget

Select a budget to open it. You’ll see how much has been spent against the cap.
  • Overview breaks the spend down by category, by person and by card.
  • Actuals lists the transactions tagged to the budget. Filter them by method, status, direction or card type, and select Download CSV to export them.
Select Edit budget to change the name, cap, owners, cards, categories or notifications.

Archive a budget

Open a budget’s row menu in the list (or right-click it) and choose Archive budget. Transactions already tagged to it keep their tag, and any cards assigned to it are released. You can’t undo this.
