> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

# Request time off

> Check your time off balances and policy, submit a request and change or cancel an available request

Your time off balances, policies and requests are on **My profile** → **Time off**, after your company finishes onboarding. Employees and contractors assigned to a policy use this tab for their own requests.

## Before you begin

The **Time off** tab appears when time off is enabled and you belong to a time off policy. Contractors assigned to a policy can also see this tab.

Request actions are available while you are employed. After employment ends, your request history remains available on the tab, with the actions read-only.

## Check your balance and policy

Under **Time off balances**, find the policy you want to use. Limited policies show time spent and the remaining balance; unlimited policies show time taken this year.

Select the arrow beside a policy to review whether it is paid or unpaid and whether manager approval is required. The details also show accrual information, maximum balances, carryover and half-day availability when they apply to that policy.

The **Holiday calendar** lists your upcoming company holidays. It shows "No upcoming holidays" when there are none to display.

## Submit a request

**1. Start a request**

Under **Time off requests**, select **Request**.

**2. Choose the policy**

In **Choose policy**, select an available policy.

**3. Choose the dates**

Enter the **Start date** and **End date**.

**4. Choose any half days**

Optional: when the policy permits half days, select **Start date is a half day** or **End date is a half day** as needed.

**5. Add a reason**

Optional: in **Reason**, enter why you are taking time off.

**6. Review the balance**

For a limited policy, check **Remaining balance** and the projected balance shown for your request.

**7. Submit the request**

Select **Submit request**.

## What happens next

Your request appears under **Time off requests**. Select its row to open the details.

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Pending** | Waiting for approval |
| **Approved** | Approved, including a request that did not need approval |
| **Rejected** | The request was rejected |
| **Cancelled** | The request was canceled |

A submitted request can already show Approved. Check its status before making a change.

## Edit a request

The policy and reason cannot be changed in this form.

**1. Open the request menu**

Under **Time off requests**, open the request's menu.

**2. Start editing**

Select **Edit request** when it appears.

**3. Change the dates**

Update the **Start date** or **End date** using the dates available in the form.

**4. Change any half days**

Optional: change the available half-day selections.

**5. Save the changes**

Select **Save**.

Pending and rejected requests can offer editing. An approved request can be edited only before its start day. Past dates have additional restrictions: use the dates available in the form.

## Cancel a request

You can cancel your own pending or rejected request:

**1. Open the request menu**

Under **Time off requests**, open the request's menu.

**2. Start cancellation**

Select **Cancel request**.

**3. Confirm cancellation**

In **Cancel time off request?**, select **Cancel request**. Cancellation cannot be undone.

For an approved request, ask your manager to cancel it before its start day. An approved request cannot be canceled once it begins. A canceled request has no edit or cancel actions.

If the action you need is unavailable, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io) for help.
