# Workers' compensation

> Apply for workers' compensation through Every's partner, or record the policy you already have

> [!NOTE]
>
> The workers' compensation application in Every may not be available for your company yet.

In **Benefits**, the **Business** section has a row for workers' compensation through Every's insurance partner. Company Admins and HR Admins can use it once payroll is set up.

## Apply for coverage

**1. Start your application**

Select the workers' compensation row. Every opens the partner's site in a new tab, where you start your application. If your browser blocks pop-ups, allow them for Every and try again.

**2. Continue in Every**

Once you've started an application, select the row again to pick it up inside Every. The application walks you through getting a quote, then buying and paying for your policy.

Workers' compensation is priced from your payroll. If your company hasn't run payroll yet, the row shows **Unavailable** and selecting it explains that **Workers' compensation needs a payroll run**. Run your first payroll, then come back.

## Application status

When you open your application in Every, you might see one of these instead of the application itself.

| Message | What it means |
| - | - |
| **You're covered** | Your coverage is in place. You'll see the **Insurance company** and **Policy number** |
| **We couldn't complete your application** | Your application didn't go through. Contact support so they can look into it before anything is submitted again |
| **Workers' compensation isn't available for your company** | It's only available to companies registered as an LLC, corporation or partnership, and isn't available yet for some primary work locations |
| **We couldn't load your application** | Something went wrong on Every's side. Reload the page and try again |

Select **Back to Benefits** to return.

## If you already have a policy

When the number of employees you have means your company now needs workers' compensation, Company Admins and HR Admins see **Compliance alert: You are now required to setup workers compensation for your company** on Home.

* Select the alert to open **Setup workers compensation**. Enter your **Insurance Company** and **Policy Number**, then select **Submit**. If you don't have a policy yet, the sheet links you to Every's insurance partner.
* If every employee on payroll is a company owner, select **Dismiss** and then **Dismiss, we are all founders and don't need insurance**. Contractors don't count.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Only dismiss the alert if every employee on payroll is a company owner. If anyone isn't, your state requires you to carry workers' compensation, and dismissing the alert won't protect you from fines.

For a breakdown of wages and taxes for an audit, run the **Workers Comp Audit Report** (see [Payroll and people reports](/reports/payroll-reports)).
