> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.

# Create an off-cycle or bonus pay run

> Create an off-cycle or bonus pay run, choose its payday and add people; set withholding for bonus runs

![Pay run created confirmation with a check above the next action.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/6k1svT9aHzVFwBZW/images/illustrations/admins-payroll-off-cycle-payroll-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=6k1svT9aHzVFwBZW\&q=85\&s=4592655abad442c127fce16f8d8044e3)

Use **Payroll** → **Create new** to make an extra pay run or replace someone's regular pay. Company Admins and HR Admins can choose **Offcycle** or **Bonus**. A bonus run also asks how to handle withholding (Tax an employer takes out of an employee's pay and sends to the government for them).

## Before you begin

Finish payroll onboarding so **Create new** appears on **All pay runs**. Choose who you need to pay and whether the run adds to or replaces their regular pay.

For an employee's final paycheck, use [Run a termination payroll](https://every.help/admins/payroll/termination-payroll.md).

## Create the pay run

**1. Choose the type of run**

On **All pay runs**, select **Create new** → **Offcycle** or **Create new** → **Bonus**.

**2. Name the run**

In **Pay run name**, enter a name you can recognize later.

**3. Choose the payday**

In **Payday (mm/dd/yyyy)**, choose an available date at least 3 business days after today.

**4. Choose how to handle benefits**

Choose whether the run includes standard benefits and garnishments (Money withheld from an employee's pay by court or government order, such as for child support or unpaid taxes):

* **Yes, omit standard benefits**: use this when the pay is additional to regular pay. Benefit costs stay in the regular pay run.
* **No, include standard benefits and garnishments**: use this when you removed someone from a regular run and are paying them in this run instead.

**5. For a bonus, choose withholding**

In **Bonus withholding**, choose **22% Supplemental Tax Rate** or **Regular W-4 Tax Rate**. You can edit each person's pay types after creating the run.

**6. Create the run**

Select **Submit**.

**7. Open the run**

When **Pay run created** appears, select **Done** to open the run and enter pay information.

![All pay runs with the Create new menu open, listing the kinds of pay run you can create.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/lWATgPF1EqKKYfej/images/screens/admins-payroll-off-cycle-payroll-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=lWATgPF1EqKKYfej\&q=85\&s=20a92d6b545e75a56d686877edd03a77)

## Add people

An off-cycle or bonus run starts with Draft status. On a Draft or Failed run:

**1. Open Add employees**

On the pay run, select **Add people**.

**2. Choose the people**

In **Add employees**, search for and select each person to pay.

**3. Add them**

Select the button that shows how many employees you're adding.

If some people couldn't be added, the dialog keeps those people selected so you can retry. The run refreshes to show anyone already added.

## What happens next

Creating the run doesn't submit payroll. Enter the hours and pay amounts, then select **Preview payroll** to review the run. Continue with **Submit & schedule** when the review is ready (see [Run payroll](https://every.help/admins/payroll/running-payroll.md)).

## Agent reference

**Where:** **Payroll** → **Create new** → **Offcycle** or **Bonus** on **All pay runs**.

**Who:** Company Admins and HR Admins. The **Create new** menu appears after payroll onboarding completes. **Offcycle** and **Bonus** open the same form, for the same roles.

### Facts

* **Offcycle** and **Bonus** on **Payroll** → **Create new** create separate pay runs outside the regular schedule. A bonus run adds a **Bonus withholding** choice.
* The off-cycle and bonus creation form asks for **Pay run name**, **Payday (mm/dd/yyyy)** and whether to omit standard benefits and garnishments.
* The off-cycle and bonus **Payday (mm/dd/yyyy)** picker offers available business dates at least 3 business days after today.
* On the off-cycle and bonus form, **Yes, omit standard benefits** is the choice for pay additional to a regular run. Benefit costs are deducted in the regular run.
* On the off-cycle and bonus form, **No, include standard benefits and garnishments** is the choice when the person was removed from a regular run and receives that pay in the new run instead.
* The off-cycle and bonus form saves the selected benefits-and-garnishments setting on the new pay run. Pay previews use that stored setting when calculating benefits.
* Only the bonus creation form shows **Bonus withholding**, with **22% Supplemental Tax Rate** and **Regular W-4 Tax Rate**. Every saves the selected default on the bonus pay run, and each person's pay types can be edited later.
* **Submit** on the off-cycle or bonus creation form creates a pay run with Draft status. **Submit** on the creation form doesn't submit payroll for payment.
* The off-cycle and bonus creation form shows **Pay run created** after creation. **Done** opens the newly created pay run for hours and pay information.
* **Add people** is enabled on a Draft or Failed pay run when the run is not a regular pay run. **Add people** opens **Add employees** with a **Search employees...** picker and a button showing the selected employee count.
* **Add employees** adds each selected person to the pay run and refreshes the pay run after the attempts. When some additions fail, the dialog stays open with only the failed people selected for retry.
* A Draft or Failed pay run offers **Preview payroll**. A pay run ready for review offers **Submit & schedule**. [Run payroll](https://every.help/admins/payroll/running-payroll.md) covers entering pay, reviewing and submitting.
* [Run a termination payroll](https://every.help/admins/payroll/termination-payroll.md) covers the separate **Termination** flow for an employee leaving the company.

### Questions people ask

* **How do I create a bonus payroll?** Go to **Payroll** → **Create new** → **Bonus**, then enter the name, payday, benefits choice and **Bonus withholding** before selecting **Submit**.
* **Should I include benefits on an extra bonus?** No. Choose **Yes, omit standard benefits** when the pay is on top of a regular run; benefit costs are deducted in the regular run.
* **What if this pay run replaces someone's regular pay?** On **Payroll** → **Create new** → **Offcycle** or **Bonus**, **No, include standard benefits and garnishments** is the choice for someone removed from the regular run and paid in the new run instead.
* **Why can't I pick tomorrow as the payday?** The off-cycle and bonus picker requires an available date at least 3 business days after today.
* **Did Submit pay the employees?** No. **Submit** in the creation form creates a pay run with Draft status. Open the run with **Done**, add people and pay information, then review and submit payroll.
* **How do I retry adding people?** When **Add employees** reports a partial failure, retry the people left selected in the dialog. The pay run already reflects the successful additions.
* **Can I add people to a regular run with Add people?** No. The pay run's **Add people** button is enabled only for non-regular Draft or Failed runs.
