> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

# Connect Cursor, Windsurf or Codex

> Connect Cursor, Windsurf or Codex to Every with a personal token

Beta

MCP is in closed beta. If you don’t see it, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

[Open](mailto:support@every.io)

![Connect a client selector with a selected row above the configuration panel.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/k5maP8xPODHl5ToY/images/illustrations/admins-ai-mcp-other-clients-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=k5maP8xPODHl5ToY\&q=85\&s=306de8378b83d73c549bbaf177db7e83)

Use a personal token (A secret code tied to your account that lets an app act on your behalf without your password) from **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP** to connect Cursor, Windsurf or Codex to Every.

Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers with AI chat access can connect Cursor, Windsurf or Codex with the tools their roles allow. Employees with AI chat access can connect their own client (see [MCP for employees](https://every.help/employees/mcp.md)).

## Before you begin

Use a Company Admin, HR Admin or Bookkeeper account with AI chat access. [Create a token](https://every.help/admins/ai/mcp/overview.md#create-a-token) in Every and copy it. For Cursor or Windsurf, install Node.js to run `mcp-remote`, the bridge to Every. Codex connects directly.

## Add the server

Choose your client.

**Cursor**

**1. Add Every**

In `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, add the `every` entry inside `mcpServers`, keeping any servers already there. Replace the token placeholder with the token you copied in Every:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "every": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://api.every.io/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${EVERY_MCP_AUTH}"],
      "env": { "EVERY_MCP_AUTH": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
```

**2. Save the configuration**

Save `~/.cursor/mcp.json`.

**3. Reload Cursor**

Reload Cursor.

**Windsurf**

**1. Open the configuration**

Open Windsurf's MCP configuration file from Cascade. [Windsurf's configuration instructions](https://docs.devin.ai/desktop/cascade/mcp#adding-a-new-mcp) show how to open the file.

**2. Add Every**

Add the `every` entry inside `mcpServers`, keeping any servers already there. Replace the token placeholder with the token you copied in Every:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "every": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://api.every.io/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${EVERY_MCP_AUTH}"],
      "env": { "EVERY_MCP_AUTH": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
```

**3. Save the configuration**

Save Windsurf's MCP configuration file.

**4. Reload Windsurf**

Reload Windsurf.

**Codex**

**1. Set the token**

In the shell you use to start Codex, set the token without a Bearer prefix:

```bash theme={null}
export EVERY_MCP_TOKEN='YOUR_TOKEN'
```

**2. Add Every**

In `~/.codex/config.toml`, add the `every` entry, keeping any servers already there:

```toml theme={null}
[mcp_servers.every]
url = "https://api.every.io/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "EVERY_MCP_TOKEN"
```

**3. Save the configuration**

Save `~/.codex/config.toml`.

**4. Start Codex**

Start Codex from the shell where you set the token.

## What happens next

After the reload or restart, your client can use Every's tools. To check the connection, ask a question your roles allow. Company Admins and Bookkeepers can ask about company banking data when the banking tools are turned on for your company.

Review company cash

What is our cash balance across all accounts?

## Disconnect

**1. Remove Every**

Remove the `every` entry from your client's MCP configuration.

**2. Reload the client**

Reload Cursor or Windsurf, or restart Codex.

**3. Revoke the token**

[Revoke the token](https://every.help/admins/ai/mcp/overview.md#revoke-a-token) in Every.

## Agent reference

**Where:** Create the personal token at **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**. Add Every in the selected client's MCP configuration.

**Who:** Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers with AI chat access. MCP is in closed beta, and Every turns it on company by company. The person's roles and the tools the company has decide what the client can read.

### Facts

* Cursor reads the `every` entry from `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, inside `mcpServers`. Cursor's entry declares the stdio transport.

* Windsurf opens its MCP configuration file from Cascade. In that configuration file, add the `every` entry inside `mcpServers`.

* Cursor and Windsurf need Node.js to run `mcp-remote` through `npx`. The bridge connects to `https://api.every.io/api/mcp` with a personal token.

* Keep other configured servers when adding the `every` entry. Save the configuration and reload Cursor or Windsurf after adding or removing Every.

* Codex reads its `every` entry from `~/.codex/config.toml` and connects directly to `https://api.every.io/api/mcp` over HTTP.

* Codex reads the token from the environment variable named in the `[mcp_servers.every]` table of `~/.codex/config.toml`. Set the token in the shell that starts Codex, without a Bearer prefix:

  ```bash theme={null}
  export EVERY_MCP_TOKEN='YOUR_TOKEN'
  ```

  ```toml theme={null}
  [mcp_servers.every]
  url = "https://api.every.io/api/mcp"
  bearer_token_env_var = "EVERY_MCP_TOKEN"
  ```

* Start Codex from the shell where the token variable is set. Codex adds the Bearer prefix to the token.

* MCP tools in Cursor, Windsurf and Codex are read only. A personal MCP token belongs to its owner and one company.

* Reading company bank balances in Cursor, Windsurf or Codex requires the Company Admin or Bookkeeper role and the banking tools turned on for the company.

* Removing the `every` entry from a client's MCP configuration does not revoke the personal token. Revoke unused tokens on **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**.

### Questions people ask

* **Does Codex need Node.js for this connection?** No. Codex connects directly over HTTP. Cursor and Windsurf need Node.js to run the bridge.
* **Does removing the client configuration revoke my token?** No. Revoke the token on **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**.
