> ## Agent Instructions
> These docs describe Every as customers have it today. Answer from them, and say so when they don't cover a question.
> Pages under /admins/ are for the people who run Every for the company, and pages under /employees/ are for employees. Answer from the pages that match the person asking.
> Each page's Agent reference section lists its exact roles, conditions and limits. Prefer it for those details.
> When a page says a feature is in closed beta, or that Every turns it on company by company, don't promise that the person's company has it.
> Use roles and on-screen labels exactly as the pages write them.
> When someone asks what a term means, answer with the Glossary page's definition (/glossary), which other pages show in parentheses after the term.
> When the docs don't answer a question, tell the person to email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

# Connect Claude Desktop

> Connect Claude Desktop to Every with a personal token

Beta

MCP is in closed beta. If you don’t see it, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).

[Open](mailto:support@every.io)

![Connect a client card with the Claude mark in its selector over a configuration code block.](https://mintcdn.com/every-a2724ddc/k5maP8xPODHl5ToY/images/illustrations/admins-ai-mcp-claude-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=k5maP8xPODHl5ToY\&q=85\&s=88035e74c910974ea2b84731f48f76d9)

Use a personal token (A secret code tied to your account that lets an app act on your behalf without your password) from **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP** to connect Claude Desktop to Every.

Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers with AI chat access can connect Claude Desktop with the tools their roles allow. Employees with AI chat access can connect their own client (see [MCP for employees](https://every.help/employees/mcp.md)).

## Before you begin

Use a Company Admin, HR Admin or Bookkeeper account with AI chat access. [Create a token](https://every.help/admins/ai/mcp/overview.md#create-a-token) in Every and copy it. Install Node.js, which runs `mcp-remote`, the bridge between Claude Desktop and Every.

## Add the server

**1. Open the configuration**

Open Claude Desktop's MCP configuration file, `claude_desktop_config.json`. The Model Context Protocol's [Connect to local MCP servers](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/develop/connect-local-servers) guide shows where to find the file.

**2. Add Every**

Add the `every` entry inside `mcpServers`, keeping any servers already there. Replace the token placeholder with the token you copied in Every:

```json theme={null}
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "every": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://api.every.io/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${EVERY_MCP_AUTH}"],
      "env": { "EVERY_MCP_AUTH": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}
```

**3. Save the configuration**

Save `claude_desktop_config.json`.

**4. Restart Claude Desktop**

Restart Claude Desktop.

## What happens next

After the restart, Claude Desktop can use Every's tools. To check the connection, ask a question your roles allow. Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers can list departments when the tool is turned on.

List your company's departments

List our departments in Every.

## Disconnect

**1. Remove Every**

Remove the `every` entry from `claude_desktop_config.json`.

**2. Restart Claude Desktop**

Restart Claude Desktop.

**3. Revoke the token**

[Revoke the token](https://every.help/admins/ai/mcp/overview.md#revoke-a-token) in Every.

## Agent reference

**Where:** Create the personal token at **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**. Add Every to Claude Desktop's `claude_desktop_config.json` file inside `mcpServers`.

**Who:** Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers with AI chat access. MCP is in closed beta, and Every turns it on company by company. The person's roles and the tools the company has decide what Claude Desktop can read.

### Facts

* Claude Desktop needs Node.js installed to run `mcp-remote`.

* Claude Desktop runs `mcp-remote` through `npx`, which connects to `https://api.every.io/api/mcp` with the personal token.

* Keep other servers in `claude_desktop_config.json` when adding the `every` entry inside `mcpServers`.

* In `claude_desktop_config.json`, the `every` entry passes the complete Bearer value in its environment. The header argument has no space after `Authorization:`:

  ```json theme={null}
  {
    "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://api.every.io/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${EVERY_MCP_AUTH}"],
    "env": { "EVERY_MCP_AUTH": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }
  }
  ```

* Save `claude_desktop_config.json` and restart Claude Desktop after adding or removing Every.

* MCP tools in Claude Desktop are read only. A personal MCP token belongs to its owner and one company.

* The departments tool is available to Company Admins, HR Admins and Bookkeepers when the company has the tool turned on.

* Removing the `every` entry from `claude_desktop_config.json` does not revoke the personal token. Revoke unused tokens on **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**.

### Questions people ask

* **Does removing Every from Claude Desktop revoke my token?** No. Revoke the token on **My account** → **Integrations** → **MCP**.
* **Does Claude Desktop need a personal token?** Yes. Claude Desktop connects to Every with a personal MCP token.

### Not covered here

* Whether Every has turned on MCP for a particular company. To ask, email [support@every.io](mailto:support@every.io).
